  • How long do oysters last?
Fresh oysters should be consumed within 2-3 days of purchase. It is important to keep them in a cool place (not refridgerated) and stored in a container with a damp cloth covering them to maintain their freshness. It is important to note that once oysters are shucked, they should be consumed within the same day for optimal freshness and safety.
  • I don't know how to shuck an oyster, can you do it for me?
Absolutely! We understand that shucking oysters can be intimidating for some people. That's why we offer shucking services for a small additional fee per dozen oysters. Simply select the shucking service option at checkout, and we'll take care of the rest. Our experienced team of shuckers will expertly open your oysters, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy the taste of fresh, succulent oysters. Don't hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about our shucking services.
  • What are the different ways to enjoy oysters?
Here are some popular ways to enjoy oysters: - Raw: Oysters are often consumed raw, served on the half shell with a squeeze of lemon juice or a dash of hot sauce. - Grilled: Grilled oysters are a popular option, where oysters are placed on the grill with butter, garlic, and herbs, and cooked until they are slightly charred and smoky. - Fried: Fried oysters are a classic Southern dish, where oysters are coated in breadcrumbs or cornmeal and fried until crispy and golden. - Baked: Baked oysters are a decadent treat, where oysters are topped with a mixture of butter, breadcrumbs, and cheese, and baked until bubbly and golden. No matter how you choose to enjoy your oysters, Port Stephens Oysters offers the freshest and highest quality oysters for your culinary pleasure.
  • Do your oysters have any pearls in them?
No, we specializes in providing fresh and delicious oysters for consumption only. Our oysters are not harvested for pearls, and we do not sell any oysters that may contain pearls. However, we do offer a variety of oyster products such as shucked oysters and whole oysters that are perfect for cooking and enjoying.
  • What do I do with the leftover oyster shells?
There are several ways you can make use of leftover oyster shells. One option is to crush them into smaller pieces and use them for gardening purposes. Oyster shells are rich in calcium carbonate, which is beneficial for plants. You can add them to your compost or use them as mulch. Another option is to use them for decoration. Oyster shells make beautiful and unique accents for your home or garden. You can create a mosaic, arrange them in a vase, or use them as a base for candles. Finally, if you live near the coast, you can return the shells to the ocean. Oyster shells provide a habitat for other sea creatures and help to create a healthy marine ecosystem.
  • How are oysters grown?
At Port Stephens Oysters, we take pride in our sustainable and environmentally friendly approach to oyster farming. Our oysters are grown in the pristine waters of Port Stephens, New South Wales, Australia. Our farming process begins with the collection of oyster larvae, which are then carefully placed onto recycled oyster shells. These shells are then placed in our grow-out tanks, where the oysters are given the perfect conditions to grow and thrive. These tanks are filled with fresh seawater that is constantly monitored for temperature, salinity, and other important factors. As the oysters grow, they are regularly checked and sorted to ensure that they are healthy and of the highest quality. When they reach maturity, they are harvested by hand and carefully packed for delivery to our customers. We are committed to sustainable farming practices that minimize our impact on the environment and promote the health and wellbeing of our oysters. We believe that by taking care of our oysters, we are also taking care of the ocean and the wider ecosystem.
